Student Achievements
2006 - 2007
In September, Liia B., Chloe D., Grant F., Tyler J. and Josh S., participated in the Missouri Music Teachers Association District Piano Auditions. All received a I rating entitling them to participate in the State Competition where they competed against other excellent students from all over the state. Each student competed against others in their own grade. Students were required to perform for a judge two memorized pieces from contrasting periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century). Grant received a I rating. Chloe was awarded Runner-Up in the 7th grade division. Tyler J. was awarded Runner-Up in the 6th grade division. Congratulations to all on your outstanding achievements!
In October, Liia B., Zach B., Chloe D., Grant F., Coby J., Tyler J., Victoria L., Josh S. and Veronica S. all participated in the Kansas City Music Teachers Association Fall Festival which highlighted music from the Classical Era. Students were required to perform a piece from the Classical Era from memory for a judge. Liia and Veronica received the Special Merit Award 4+ (the highest score). Zach, Chloe, Grant, Coby, Tyler and Josh received 4 ratings.
In April, Tyler J. and Coby J. participated in the Association of Christian Schools International Music Meet. This event encompassed musicians of all instruments in grades 4-6. Nine area Christian schools participated in this event. Students performed one memorized classical piece for a judge. Tyler was chosen as Grand Champion over the entire event. Coby was chosen 1st Place over all pianists. Congratulations on these outstanding achievements Tyler and Coby.
Congratulations to Veronica S. She received both academic and piano scholarships to study at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri where she will be pursuing a piano performance degree with Dr. Mia Hynes.
Fall 2005
Congratulations to the following students for their outstanding
achievements in Fall 2005!
Liia B., Chloe D., Tyler J., Megan M., Josh S. and Veronica S. all
performed in September at the Missouri Music Teachers District Piano
Auditions. All students received the highest rating, 1, which entitled
them to go on the The Missouri Music Teachers State Piano Competition
held in Columbia, Missouri in November. Each student competed against
students in their own grade level. Liia, Tyler, Josh, and Chloe received
I ratings and Chloe also received an Honorable Mention. Congratulations
to each of these students for their exceptional efforts and great accomplishments!
In October, The Kansas City Music Teachers Association has an annual
Fall Festival celebrating the music of a particular Era of music.
This year each student who participated in the Festival was asked to
perform a work written in the Baroque Era (1650-1750). Each student
was evaluated by a qualified judge on a rating scale of 1-4
(4 being the highest). The students performing were Liia B.,
Chloe D., Drew F., Grant F., Tyler J., Josh S., and Veronica S. Students receiving a 4 rating were Liia B., Chloe D., Grant F.,
and Tyler J. Josh S. and Veronica S. received a Special Merit
Award of 4+. Congratulations to all!
2004
In September 2004, four students participated in
the Missouri Music Teachers District Auditions
held at the UMKC Conservatory of Music. Each
student performed two pieces from contrasting
musical eras for a judge. The following
students performed in these Auditions: Liia B., Chloe D., Drew F. and Grant F. Liia
and Drew each received the top
“1” rating entitling them to move on to the
State Competition held at Missouri Western State
College in St. Joseph, Missouri in November
2004. Each student competed against other
performers in their own grade level. Liia
and Drew received a “1” rating!
In October 2004, five students performed in The
Kansas City Music Teachers Association Fall
Festival. This year’s festival highlighted
music from the Twentieth Century. Each student
performed a work composed in this Era. Those
students were: Liia B., Chloe D., Drew
F., Grant F. and Veronica S. All
performers received the highest rating “4”. Chloe, Drew and Grant received a
Three-Year Award Plaque for achieving the
perfect “4” score for three years at the Fall
Festival!
Tyler J. performed a piano solo at the Association of
Christian Schools International (ACSI) South
Central Regional (TX, OK, MO, KS) Piano
Competition competing with pianists grades 4-6. Tyler received the highest rating
“1”. He was also awarded a medal and ribbon as
the overall “Best Pianist” who competed in this
Competition! Tyler also
auditioned for and was selected to perform at
the All-School Talent Show. Tyler is a 4th grader at Lee’s Summit
Community Christian School.
Drew and Grant F. auditioned for and were selected to perform at
the All-School Talent Show at Cedar Creek
Elementary School in Lee’s Summit where they
performed a duet together.
In February 2005, Megan M. performed a piano solo at the Mid-America
Association of Christian Schools Piano
Competition in the 7-9th grade
division at Tri-City Christian School. Megan
received 3rd Place. In March 2005,
Megan also performed a piano duet with her
brother at the Regional Sacred Piano Duet High
School Competition. They received 1st Place! Megan is an 8th grader at Tri-City Christian School.
In November 2004, Veronica S. was
selected by the Music Director at O’Hara High
School to perform at the All-School Talent
Show. Veronica has also started
teaching piano out of her home! Veronica is a
sophomore at O’Hara High School.
Congratulations to all of the above students for
their outstanding achievements and extra efforts
in preparing themselves for these events. Great
Job!
Past Achievements
In September 2003, seven students
participated in the Missouri Music Teachers
District Auditions held at the UMKC Conservatory
of Music. Each student performed two pieces from
contrasting musical eras for a judge. The

F., Ryan K. and Veronica S. Liia, Audrey, Chloe,
Drew and Grant each received the top 1
rating entitling them to move on to the State
Competition held at Johnson County Community
College in Overland Park, Kansas in November
2003. Each student competed against other
performers in their own grade level. Liia,
Audrey and Grant received a 1 rating. Chloe was
awarded Runner-Up in the 4th grade division in
the State of Missouri. Congratulations to all of
you for your outstanding accomplishments and
tremendous work at this highly competitive and
difficult competition!
In October 2003, six students performed in The

in the 19th Century. Each student performed a
work written in this Era. Those students were: Liia B., Audrey C., Chloe D., Drew F., Grant F.
and Veronica S. All performers received the
highest rating 4. Audrey C. received a
Three-Year Award Plaque for achieving the
perfect 4 score for three years at the Fall
Festival. Congratulations!
Tyler J. performed at the Association for
Christian Schools International (ACSI) music
contest in May 2004 where he performed for a
judge and received the highest rating 1.

Chloe D. was asked to perform in March 2004 for
her 4th grade school program entitled Marvelous
Missouri where she performed Scott Joplins' The
Entertainer. In April, Chloe presented a program
of of three pieces to the Santa Fe Doll
Collectors Club in Independence, Missouri.
Drew and Grant F. auditioned for and were
selected to perform at their school Talent Show
where they performed a duet together.
Veronica S. auditioned for and was selected to
perform at her school Talent Show.
Luke W. auditioned for and was selected to
perform at his school Talent Show.

Audrey, Chloe, Drew and Blaine each received a 1
rating entitling them to move on to the State
Competition held in Kirksville, Missouri in
November 2002. Each student competed against
other performers in their own grade level. Blaine received a 1 rating and Chloe received
Honorable Mention (tied for 3rd place) in the
3rd grade level.
In October 2002, nine students performed in The
Kansas City Music Teachers Association Fall
Festival. This years festival highlighted music
from the Classical Era which was composed from
approximately 1770-1820. Each student performed
a work written in this Era. Those students were: Audrey C., Chloe D., Drew F., Grant F., Blaine
G., Laura N., Catherine P., Veronica S., Erica
S. All nine performers received the highest
rating given 4. Drew received a Special Merit
Award for an exceptional performance.
Several students performed at Nordstrom in the
Oak Park Mall in December 2002. These students
prepared and performed Christmas music for
shoppers. This event was sponsored by The Kansas
City Music Teachers Association. Those students
who participated were: Lauren B., Audrey C.,
Chloe D., Drew F., Laura N., Catherine P.,
Veronica S.,
In December 2002, Lauren B. performed a special
solo Christmas Concert at John Knox Village
where she entertained residents while they
dined.
In February 2003, Chloe D. was asked by school
faculty to perform a solo prior to a PTA
Meeting.
In February 2003, Drew F. and Grant F. were
selected to perform a solo at their school
Talent Show.
In March and April 2001, Courtney A. performed
at District and Missouri State Music Contests in
Blue Springs and Columbia, Missouri. In both
performances, Courtney received a I rating.

In March and April 2001, Courtney D. performed
at District and Missouri State Music Contests in
Harrisonville and Columbia, Missouri. Courtney received a I at District and II at State.

In April 2001, Matthew M. performed at the
Association of Christian Schools International
Music Contest in Overland Park, Kansas. Matthew received the highest rating of I.

Courtney A. was awarded a piano scholarship to
study at the Missouri Fine Arts Academy held at
Southwest Missouri State University in
Springfield, Missouri, June 17-July 7, 2001.
Auditions consisted of performing two pieces
from different eras of classical music, as well
as her written essay on the subject of
interdisciplinary work in her life. Courtney also had to submit written recommendations from
school faculty and community leaders. Courtney was one of only 10 pianists chosen in the state
of Missouri to attend. Congratulations Courtney!
In October 2001, The Kansas City Music Teachers
Association sponsored their Fall Festival
featuring music from the Baroque Era. Each of
the following students performed before a judge
and received the following ratings:
Lauren B., Audrey C., Drew F., Blaine G.,
Matthew M., Veronica S. The highest rating is 4.
Lauren received 3+, Audrey received 4, Drew
received 4, Blaine received a Special Merit
Award of 4+, Matthew received 4, Veronica
received 4. Congratulations to each of you!
In September 2001, Laura N. performed before a
judge at the Missouri Music Teachers Association
District Music Contest held in Overland Park at
Schmitt Music. Laura performed two pieces from
contrasting periods. She received the highest I
rating. This rating entitled her to perform in
November at the State Contest held in
Springfield, Missouri at Southwest Missouri
State University. Laura again received the
highest I rating. She received a certificate and
a medal. Congratulations to Laura!
In December 2001, several students performed
Christmas music at Nordstroms Department Store
at Oak Park Mall. This event was sponsored by
The Kansas City Music Teachers Association.

Catherine P., and Veronica S. for your
outstanding performances!
Jamie E., former student who studied for 10
years with Ms. Katz, was awarded a piano
scholarship to study at Southwest Baptist
University where she received her piano
performance degree. She currently teaches piano
at the First Baptist Church of Raytown and is
the Administrator for their Celebration Academy
of the Arts. She directs all aspects of the
Academy which offers lessons in several
instruments, voice and drama.
